Battery storage may be worthwhile if your home sends surplus solar to the grid during the day but still purchases substantial electricity after sunset. Keeping that energy for your own evening use can reduce grid purchases and improve the value delivered by your existing solar system.

Many existing solar systems can be upgraded with battery storage, but compatibility depends on the inverter, switchboard, solar capacity and current system configuration. Your solar panels may generate most of their electricity while your home is using less power. The unused energy is exported for a feed-in credit, but your household may then purchase higher-priced grid electricity for appliances, cooling and other energy needs after sunset.

Battery capacity should be based on how much excess solar you generate and how much electricity you use after sunset. Your tariff, budget, existing equipment, pool or air-conditioning use, EV charging and backup requirements should also be considered. The biggest battery is not automatically the best-value option.

A battery can supply stored solar energy to pool equipment and air conditioning, but these appliances can use substantial power. Yes. The installation location must satisfy the battery manufacturer’s requirements and applicable electrical and fire-safety standards. Coastal exposure, moisture, ventilation, direct sunlight, access and proximity to restricted areas should all be assessed before selecting a suitable position.

Eligible Northern Beaches households may receive an upfront federal discount on an approved home battery installation. The final amount depends on the battery’s capacity, installation date, eligibility requirements and current certificate values. Any applicable discount will be shown clearly in your quote.

Eligible NSW owner-occupiers and landlords may be able to access an interest-free Home Energy Saver Loan of up to $15,000 for approved upgrades, including battery storage. Repayment terms may extend up to 10 years. Income, property, lending and program eligibility requirements apply.

Only batteries designed and configured for backup operation can provide power during an outage. Additional equipment may be required, and the system may supply selected essential circuits rather than the entire house. We can design backup around the appliances you most want to keep operating.

Stored solar can contribute to overnight EV charging, although electric vehicles may require more energy than a standard home battery can supply alone. Solar generation, battery capacity, daily driving distance and charging times should be considered together when designing the system.
