Your panels may generate most of their electricity during the day when your household uses less power. Without a battery, the excess is normally exported for a relatively low feed-in tariff, while your home purchases electricity from the grid at a higher retail rate in the evening.

The right battery size depends on your excess solar generation, evening electricity use, tariff, budget and whether you want backup power. A battery should be sized around your actual energy profile rather than simply choosing the largest capacity available.

Battery installation may still be possible on properties with limited space, but the location must meet the manufacturer’s requirements and applicable electrical and fire-safety standards. We assess available wall or floor space, ventilation, access and distance from restricted areas before recommending a suitable location.

Eligible Eastern Suburbs households may receive an upfront federal discount on an approved home battery installation. The amount depends on battery capacity, installation timing, eligibility and current certificate values. Any available discount will be clearly included in your battery quote.

Eligible NSW owner-occupiers and landlords may be able to access an interest-free Home Energy Saver Loan of up to $15,000 for approved energy upgrades, including battery storage. Repayment terms may extend up to 10 years. Household income, property, lending and program eligibility requirements apply.

Some batteries can provide backup power, but it is not automatically included with every system. Backup capability depends on the battery, inverter, additional equipment and installation design. A battery can contribute stored solar energy towards overnight electric vehicle charging, although EVs can require a significant amount of electricity. Your solar generation, battery capacity, driving habits and charging schedule should all be considered when designing the system.
