This scheme offers individuals and small businesses an incentive to install eligible small-scale renewable energy systems like solar panel systems, solar water heaters and air source heat pumps.
It does this through the creation of small-scale technology certificates which Renewable Energy Target liable entities* have a legal obligation to buy and surrender to the Clean Energy Regulator.
Small-scale technology certificates are provided ‘up front’ by the installer. This certificate provides a projection for the what the newly installed systems’ expected power generation may be over a 15-year period. This renewable electricity will replace electricity generated from non-renewable sources.
Householders who purchase these systems assign the right to create their certificates to an agent/installer in return for a lower purchase price.
*Renewable Energy Target liable entities are an individual or company who make acquisitions of electricity on a grid which has an installed capacity of 100 megawatts or more. They are usually electricity retailers.
The Solar for Low Income Households program provides a fantastic opportunity for eligible households in the ACT to invest in rooftop solar panels to help reduce energy costs. Eligible participants are able to access a subsidy of up to 50% off the total cost of a solar system.
The ACT Government is supporting up to 36MW of battery storage in ACT homes and businesses. The current rebate is $825 per kilowatt (kW) of Sustain Peak Output (SPO) up to a maximum of 30kW SPO for households, and up to a maximum of 50kW SPO for businesses.
The No Interest Loans Scheme (NILS) offers individuals and families on low incomes access to safe, fair and affordable credit/loans for purchasing appliances and some other essential household expenses.

Our total power bill through the year when we got irrigation is about $120K a year, the dairy’s about $3,000-$5,000 a month depending on Summer or Winter, and the dairy is running about 14-15 hours a day. On the Solar side of things we wanted to reduce power and not have to pay higher power costs. The speed Stag got a quote to me and had the system erected was super fast. They were straight to the point, legitimate, I could get them on the phone and I didn’t have to beat around the bush to a sales person.
